November is Native American Heritage Month — a good reason to fill your shelf with Indigenous voices and stories told with care. Reading them isn't a once-a-year task, but the month is a fine place to start.

From our catalog: Just Indian

Just Indian is an Indigenous story that speaks honestly to identity and pushes back against the stereotypes Native kids too often encounter. It's a thoughtful addition to a classroom or family shelf. Ages 4–8.

More Indigenous voices to read

Seek out books by Native authors and illustrators: We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom and Michaela Goade; Fry Bread by Kevin Noble Maillard and Juana Martinez-Neal; and Bowwow Powwow by Brenda J. Child.

Read year-round

The best way to honor these stories is to keep them on the shelf in February and June, too — not only in November.

AcuteByDesign publishes stories rooted in identity and belonging.
